Advent Box Outreach Initiative 2023
The Parish Youth Development Committee has launched the Advent Box Outreach Initiative.
Advent Boxes will be set up at each of the churches. These are large cardboard boxes that will be decorated with Christmas themed wrapping paper. Parishioners (especially the youth) are invited to donate toiletries and non-perishable food items that can be distributed to the Senior Citizen Homes and the Arijah Children’s Foundation, which caters to children with special needs.
For the senior citizens homes, the request is mainly for toiletries - toilet paper, paper towels, wipes, soap, lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, rubbing alcohol, bedpads, adult pampers, peroxide and gauze for example. Suggested food items are: Quaker Oats, Cream of Wheat, canned milk, sardines, tuna fish and rice to name a few. The Arijah Children’s Foundation would also appreciate toiletries, and food items such as Ensure or Supligen, tinned beans or vegetables, macaroni, snacks such as individually packaged crackers, cookies or fruit chews and box juices.
Persons may also donate by case which can then be broken down for distribution. Bulky items can be dropped off at The Rectory during office hours on or before Friday 29th December 2023.
During the remaining weeks of Advent and into Christmas, parishioners can bring items to church and place them in the boxes. After the gifts are received and blessed the youth leaders and Parish Youth Development Committee members will arrange distribution.
A group of young persons hope to also visit some of the senior citizen homes to deliver the gift items and spread Christmas cheer in music, song, prayers and poetry.
If you would like to assist with the Advent Box Outreach Initiative or make a contribution, please contact the Parish Office at 264- 497-2235 between the hours of 9:00AM to 12:00PM on weekdays.
It’s the season for giving. Just as Christ gave His life for us, let us give to others. Any contribution great or small is appreciated.
